I am Kat_TD,  Dj and producer born, Bread and buttered in the east rand, birth name Katlego Rakau and I have followed in the foot steps of my name which means success.

 

I started collecting music from a young age even though i didn't actually have a certain genre i was into but i knew that music moved my soul. The love for house music started when i was in grade 7, those days icons like Dj Fresh and Oskido were really starting to get their fame, radio dj's like the late Khabzela were a true inspiration to me and played a vital role in the direction of life that i took. as much as i was a house inthusiast, it was only years after completing my school career that i realised the urge of wanting to be behind the decks. Its an unexplicable feeling but i couldn't control it and being friends with many dj's didn't help at all. in 2008 I decided to ask one of my dj friends to teach me how to play and his response was Quote:"here is the sound system, mess around until you get it right: unquote. I couldn't believe my ears, this man had given me the keys to a musical theme park and I didnt know how to operate any of the rides.

 

Amazingly it didn't take me long to figure it out, within 3days I was able to beat match a few songs without horse play (mix-matched beats) and thats when my friend said to me "you have an ear for this, you should take it seriously". Thanks to him I have an incredible story tell.

 

It took me only 4 months to land my first gig and boy it was a big one. I was invited to play at a 3 day party which featured 24 djs from around Gauteng and 3 cd launches from local artists at Mcgyvas pub, what a way to play my first set huh. Fortunately enough I played a super set, I made alot of new friends that day and the rest was history.

 

I've played at alot of places since then, to name a few:

  -Big dogs pub and grill

  -News Cafe

  -Cappello

  -Mabaso

  -Front seat

  -Lapeng

  -Fusion

  -Uhuru lounge

  -Vintage

  -etc...

I cannot mention all of the places i've been or i'd have to write a book but you get the picture.

 

As time progressed I would alway sit with some friends who have studios and produce music, whether it be hip hop, house or RnB, I would always find myself sitting in someones studio having fun with friends and drinks. it was only a matter of time before iIstarted annoying them by asking questions like "what does that do", "is the mic on, lets do something". one of my friends got so fed up that he just gave me one of the music making software and said to me "take this, go knock yourself out and stop harrasing me in my studio". Little did he know that he had done me the biggest favour anyone could have done for me. Thing is i didn't know that i had the talent for music never mind playing any instrument. Every beat you hear from my songs, you should understand that i took the time to teach myself from google and youtube how to construct noises into beats, beats into songs and songs into feelings.

 

Today I have my own studio, I play some instruments and record artists. am truelly blessesd to be doing something i love so much.
